Sonic Case of the Month

This past week several USask EM physicians attended a supervised scanning session on Resuscitative Ultrasound (aka: Resusc POCUS, Focused Cardiac Ultrasound – FOCUS). With some 25 comprehensive scans (cardiac views including PLAX, PSAX, A4C, SC, and IVC) under their belts, the next step is for them to continue developing their skills on real patients in the ED (as per upcoming CEUS IP Resusc Track guidelines)

But which patients warrant a resuscitative ultrasound? Undifferentiated shock? For sure. But others? We discussed the role of Resusc Ultrasound in sepsis care – and just a few days after the session, in came 2 cases that really brought the message home. Have a look – 4 minutes, no audio (so feel free to put on your favourite studying tunes), and send in your thoughts!
